Rare footage 8mm Film 1939/A Trip to Montreal
#1
Montreal (/ˌmʌntriˈɔːl/ (About this soundlisten) MUN-tree-AWL;[14] French: [mɔ̃ʁeal] (About this soundlisten); officially Montréal) is the most populous municipality in the Canadian province of Quebec and the second-most populous municipality in Canada. Originally called Ville-Marie, or "City of Mary",[15] it is named after Mount Royal,[16] the triple-peaked hill in the heart of the city. The city is centred on the Island of Montreal, which took its name from the same source as the city,[17][18] and a few much smaller peripheral islands, the largest of which is Île Bizard. It has a distinct four-season continental climate with warm to hot summers and cold, snowy winters.[19]

This home movie was shot by George Devlin, an American visiting Canada on vacation in 1939. Believed to be primarily shot in Montreal, let me know in the comments if you recognize any of the scenery! The first few frames may actually be Quebec City, as an ad for "A.E. Marois Limited Boots and Shoes" on the side of the building suggests it was near the Saint-Roch district. The song "Les Américains" about visitors to Canada during prohibition is sung by Quebec folk singer Mary Rose-Anna Travers who was known as Madame Bolduc or La Bolduc. Unfortunately, this audio produces ads on the video, but I really don't want to change the music, so that will have to suffice. This film was transferred to HD by Cineworks in Vancouver in March 2013.

I think people in Montreal smoke a lot, and I used to smoke when I was 17-18, and just picked it up when I was playing juniors. But I think I stopped when I was 22, which was a big decision in my life.
